Saratoga County: Great Progress and Good Things to Come

Between the bustle of the “Big Apple” and the restfulness of the Adirondacks, lies vibrant, perfectly-paced Saratoga County. We know we have it good here, but what does everyone else think?

As part of Economic Development Week, the Saratoga County Prosperity Partnership released new data that broke down that very question: how do executives perceive our region? A big take-away was that they know where we are and what we’re about from a tourism perspective – Saratoga Race Course being the horse in front – but few of them make the mental transition from vacation destination to corporate footprint.

While tourism, clearly, is perceived as our strength, our economic development success spreads across additional industries like advanced manufacturing, agriculture, distribution hubs, and research and development. As the county’s new official economic development entity, the Partnership has been tasked to leverage our obvious assets and to breakthrough the clutter of a crowded marketplace to showcase our lesser-known growth clusters.

Marty Vanags, president of the Partnership, is the person we’ve entrusted to lead this effort. A look back at his first 12 months shows great progress, including the release of The Saratoga Strategy, a two-year economic development plan for Saratoga County and the launch of Business First Saratoga, a business retention and expansion initiative focused on helping Saratoga County businesses grow.

The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors anticipate many great things to come as he, along with the energetic and pro-active team he’s assembling, works to implement the clear vision that’s been cast.

The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution for Economic Development Week. See it here.
