Partnership Updates

·    The Partnership’s new Work Plan is due March 21, 2008 for the new grant year starting on October 1, 2008.  Maureen Cary and Judy Ekman have been working on putting together a logic model to present with the grant.  A logic model begins with a problem and moves forward from there.  Going through Strategies, Activities, and Short-term, Intermediate, and Long-term outcomes.  Saratoga County is 10 -15 points above the national average for alcohol, binge drinking and marijuana use.  We will be competing for grant funding for the next 5-year cycle.

· The Partnership is piloting the Parenting Wisely program with 12 volunteers including Strengthening Families facilitators, volunteer parents and family educators. In piloting the program, the Partnership is hoping to see how it compares to Strengthening Families and if it can be an parenting program option.  This is a program that we hope to offer to those who are unable to attend the Strengthening Families programs.  Parenting Wisely is a self-paced program that runs through different family scenarios and ways that a  parent could handle the situations. The solutions are calm, respectful answers to the problem. It shows how to involve the whole family in coming up with solutions using a system of consequences and rewards.

·  A postcard is being printed with Parent Who Host information, including the 866-UNDER21 number for parents to call and report possible parties being held in the area.  This will be sent out for the prom and graduation season.

·    M.O.U will be sent out, as well as in-kind forms for various committee and community members.

Committee
Updates

·   The High School Committee is researching school-based prevention programs, how are they working and what is making them successful.  They are still trying to gain access to these programs to see exactly what they are.

·   The Youth Committee is working on planning an event for February that would be geared towards gaining more youth involvement.  There is no meeting planned as of right now. Please watch your emails for more information

·   The Community Education Committee is moving forward with promoting the 1-866-Under21 phone line for prom season.  They also hope to send out a mailing regarding the Parent Who Host message.

·   The Parent Resource committee is moving forward with plans to put a parent survey online to find out what kinds of information parents are looking for.
