Committee
Updates

·  The Parent Resource Committee had good results from their survey.  The committee will use this information to guide them as they look into offering parenting programs as part of continuing education, via collaborations with other organizations, and via an online resource library.

·  The Transition Team Committee is planning to hold a BBQ where they will do team-building activities with upperclassman as the facilitators. They are also looking into having a mentoring program. Finally, they thought of having T-shirts for class pride made up for each of the graduating years (freshman to seniors).

·  The Youth Committee will hold a meeting with some students from the high school to identify short- and long-term projects from the outcome of the December 2007 Summit on Youth. They will also start to plan a possible summit for the fall that will be youth run and lead.

·  For prom and graduation season, the Community Norms Committee sent a postcard with the underage drinking tip line number (1-866-Under21) to the parents of all juniors and seniors. The tip line message will also be posted on the high school’s digital sign on West Avenue for two weeks preceding both prom and graduation.

Presentation

·  Becky Dixon from Saratoga County Drug Court gave a brief presentation about the way prescription drug use can lead to heroin addition. She spoke about how use usually starts with prescription drugs like oxycontin and hydrocodone (both opiate drugs), which are the gateway drugs to heroin, which is also an opiate. Heroin is usually snorted or injected.

Next Meeting

The next Partnership meeting will take place on Thursday, June 12 at 3:30 p.m. in the high school administration building at 3 Blue Streak Blvd.
