Profiles in Character
October 2007

October's Theme:  Respect

Featured student:
Kathleen Rock, 4th Grade, Age 10, Dorothy Nolan Elementary School:

Kathleen campaigned for and was elected the first mayor of her classroom community. She shows great kindness and respect when trying to help with classroom conflicts and also demonstrates poise and maturity when running class meetings and other activities. For example, one item on the agenda of a recent meeting was the presentation of a student-made gift to a classmate who was feeling lonesome.  Kathleen and three others came up with the idea to give up their recess to make and decorate a "petition" that the whole class willingly signed letting this friend know that she HAD made friends this year and that no one wanted her to feel lonely anymore. She is a wonderful student and mayor!
