Profiles in Character
October 2007
Featured student:
Kathleen Rock, 4th Grade, Age 10, Dorothy Nolan
Elementary School:

Kathleen campaigned
for and was elected the first mayor of her classroom community. She
shows great kindness and respect when trying to help with classroom
conflicts and also demonstrates poise and maturity when running
class meetings and other activities. For example, one item on the
agenda of a recent meeting was the presentation of a student-made
gift to a classmate who was feeling lonesome. Kathleen and three
others came up with the idea to give up their recess to make and
decorate a "petition" that the whole class willingly signed letting
this friend know that she HAD made friends this year and that no one
wanted her to feel lonely anymore. She is a wonderful student and
mayor!

William Hill,
Kindergarten, Age 5: Right from the first
day of school William has shown his teachers and classmates the

4th Grade: Riannon is a
wonderful friend who also takes her learning very seriously. She is

orchestra. Riannon is able to complete her tasks while enjoying life
as a 4th grader.

that displays outstanding character consistently! She is always
running to lend a hand to anyone who needs it, whether it’s helping
them pick up a mess, playing with them so they are not lonely, or
saying a few kind words to someone who is having a bad day. She even
lent a hand to a sad kindergartener that had started his day with
some tears on the bus!

Rebecca was assigned a class research project on a historical figure
that was proving difficult. Even though her request to change her
historical figure was denied she never showed disrespect toward her
teacher or even the assignment. Instead, she threw herself into the
project and discovered that the person assigned to her was in fact a
strong and courageous person.
