Student-athletes,
parents and coaches attended a workshop on Friday, March 18,
2010, to learn
more about adolescent brain
development, nutrition and exercise.
The event took place in the Loewenberg Auditorium at
Saratoga Springs High School.
At 3:30 p.m., Michael
Nerney, a consultant in substance
abuse prevention, presented “Train Your Brain for
Peak
Performance.” He discussed the way adolescent
brain
development affects athletic and scholastic
performance.
At
4:30 p.m.,
Skidmore College professor
Paul Arciero
presented “Optimal Performance and Health for Life.”
An
expert on nutrition and exercise physiology, Arciero's
program addressed healthy eating strategies and
exercise routines designed to nourish the mind and body
throughout the school day.
Students, parents,
and coaches
were encouraged to submit questions for this segment.
This program was presented by the Saratoga
Partnership
for Prevention and the high school’s Department of
Physical Education, Athletics and Health.
