June 28, 2016 Major investment in Saratoga County advanced manufacturing
When you attend an event where the President of the United States is speaking, you usually just check it off as a neat life experience. Last week when I was attending 2016 SelectUSA Investment Summit, President Obama took the stage to discuss doing business in the United States to an audience of potential global investors. Part way through his remarks, he announced a new Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute – and that’s when the good news came for Saratoga County:
GLOBALFOUNDRIES and RPI had been named in the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute announcement to support a proposed workforce education and development center, Manufacturing Technology and Education Center (MTEC).
A renewed focus on advanced manufacturing and greater leveraging the presence of GLOBALFOUNDRIES is nothing new to us. In our two-year economic development plan, The Saratoga Strategy, we call out the industry as a priority and propose the Next Wave Center to better serve and grow advanced manufacturing here in Saratoga County.
There are a lot of synergies with MTEC and the Next Wave Center and that’s why we’re diligently working with a wide range of partners to see our collective visions become reality.
This investment is great news for Saratoga County and the entire Capital Region, and moves us closer to the goal of being a model region on how to properly and efficiently pipeline skilled talent.
