Scannell confirmed in November that it is negotiating the purchase of 245 acres in Luther Forest with plans to invest $255 million or more to attract companies and an estimated 2,500 jobs to the county.

"We are talking about lots of jobs, lots of activity. Businesses will be patronized," said Malta Town Supervisor Darren O'Connor. "I hope we can work through these details."

To make the project happen, Scannell is requesting changes to the planned development district language for the campus to allow uses beyond the semiconductor industry. The tech park is home to the $15 billion GlobalFoundries computer chip manufacturing complex that employs 3,000 people.

Scannell wants to purchase land from the nonprofit Luther Forest Technology Campus. The property is located off Rocket Way and Stone Break Extension, straddling parts of Malta and Stillwater.
